Matreshka is a Russian traditional doll also known as babushka doll, one of the most popular souvenirs from Russia. Matreshka is organized in a nesting way whereby a set of wooden dolls are placed inside one another. The dolls are decorated in a traditional style with old fashioned colorful sarafans and Russian kerchief. The tradition of their production is not very old though; first matreshkas were made by folk crafts painters Vasily Zvyozdochkin and Sergey Malyutin only in 1890.
